As the magazine heads to more events and needs to take all our gear with us, we found ourselves in the same situation—trying to find the best bag for the job. We needed to figure out how to take our precious laptops safely on upcoming trips to game previews and events. While plenty of alternatives are available, both in stores and online, finding the right one can be a challenge.

We reviewed a wide range of bags to find the best options across various price points and features, ensuring there’s something for everyone.

We only include bags that we at CGMagazine would personally use, so while there may be many more options on the market, if we wouldn’t trust one of these bags for carrying our laptops or gear, it won’t make the list.

I’ve been using the Maverick & Co. Manhattan Leather Briefcase for the past two weeks, and I have to say it’s the little touches that make it something I want to use and recommend to our readers. The bag features a vibrant orange lining made of recycled polyester, a padded laptop pocket, pen slots, and phone compartments, making it easy to organize and locate your items. The attention to detail is clear in the polished silver hardware, magnetic closure for extra organization, and the additional padding on the shoulder strap.

At $329 USD, the Maverick & Co. Manhattan Leather Briefcase is on the higher end of our selections, but for those who crave a professional look, few other bags deliver that style and quality as effectively. I didn’t know much about Mystery Ranch before trying the 3 Way 18 Expandable Briefcase, but I have to say I’m impressed. This brand—now owned by Yeti—has created a robust and well-rounded bag designed to handle whatever adventure the world throws your way. This shapeshifting bag seamlessly transforms between three carry modes: briefcase, shoulder bag, and backpack, making it an ideal companion for the modern professional.

Starting at 18 litres and expanding to 23 litres, the briefcase offers impressive flexibility for varying carry needs. The main compartment includes a well-padded laptop sleeve that accommodates devices up to 15 inches, while the front admin section provides organized storage for daily essentials.

The bag’s 500D recycled nylon construction strikes an excellent balance between durability and professional aesthetics. While not the most minimalist design, its functional appearance works well in both office settings and during city exploration. This versatility also makes the 3 Way 18 Expandable Briefcase one of the largest over-the-shoulder bags I’ve ever used, but its adaptability ensures it can suit a variety of needs.

However, I would recommend considering other options if you plan to use this bag in a crowded space like a comic con or other large event—a slightly slimmer bag might be better suited for such situations. I used it during Lucca Comics and Games in Italy, and while the space was nice, when I was trying to squeeze through groups of people, it did feel a bit large.

Even with that one complaint, I have to say the Mystery Ranch 3 Way 18 Expandable Briefcase was incredibly comfortable, even when I carried it filled with a laptop for a full day. The removable shoulder strap allows for easy access to contents, while the hideaway backpack straps provide surprisingly comfortable support when needed.

At $200, the Mystery Ranch 3 Way represents a significant investment, but its versatility and build quality make it a compelling option for those seeking a do-it-all professional bag.

URTH Norite 24L Backpack

The URTH Norite 24L Backpack is a sleek, stylish, and functional laptop bag perfect for the modern professional on the go. I’ve been testing this backpack for about a month now in my day-to-day life as a tech journalist, and I have to say I’m very impressed.

First off, this thing just looks sharp. The clean lines, muted colour palette, and subtle branding give it an understated yet sophisticated vibe. But it’s not just about looks with the Norite. It’s thoughtfully designed with a modular layout that features dedicated, padded compartments for your laptop (up to 16″), tablet, and other gadgets. There’s also a weatherproof recycled nylon shell and durable zippers to protect your gear.

Despite packing a ton of organization, the Norite still manages to be lightweight and comfortable to wear. The shoulder straps are nicely padded, and it has both a sternum strap and waist belt to stabilize heavier loads. Ventilation is also surprisingly good, thanks to the air channel back panel. But what makes the Norite 24L Backpack so exciting is that it is built with creators in mind with an optional camera Insert, making it possible to bring the camera and other creator gear and keep it safe while accessible.

The URTH Norite 24L Backpack is a bag that seamlessly blends form and function in a way that looks and feels fantastic. It carries, protects, and looks better than most bags twice its price. My only concern is the long-term durability of those front zippers, but so far so good.

Inside, you’ll find well-designed storage to keep you organized. There’s a roomy main compartment for files, plus a secondary area with storage for pens, phones, and other everyday carry items.
