Apple Brings Apple TV+ to Android Phones and Tablets

Apple TV+ has finally arrived on Android, bringing its award-winning content and live sports to a brand-new audience.

For a while, if you wanted to watch Apple TV+ on something other than a TV, you were limited to an iPad, iPhone or Mac. That changed today. In a surprising move, Apple has launched its Apple TV app on Android devices worldwide, marking a significant shift in the company’s approach to platform exclusivity. The app—now available for download on Google Play—grants Android users access to Apple TV+’s acclaimed original programming, Major League Soccer’s MLS Season Pass and new live sports offerings—all directly through their mobile devices, tablets or foldables.

Apple has gone above and beyond to ensure the app works as expected and feels native to the platform. The Android-compatible app features a tailored interface designed to align with Google’s operating system while maintaining Apple’s signature user experience.

Subscribers can now stream content seamlessly over Wi-Fi or cellular networks, download shows for offline viewing, and track their progress through the Continue Watching and Watchlist features. Android users gain full access to Apple TV+’s catalogue, including Emmy-winning series like Ted Lasso and Severance, Oscar-winning films such as CODA and Killers of the Flower Moon, and new releases like the upcoming thriller Wolfs, starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt.

The move coincides with Major League Soccer’s 30th season kickoff on February 22, with MLS Season Pass offering every match without blackouts. New for 2025, Sunday Night Soccer will join Friday Night Baseball as weekly primetime fixtures, further solidifying Apple’s push into live sports broadcasting.

The Android rollout introduces simplified subscription options, allowing users to activate Apple TV+ or MLS Season Pass directly through their Google Play accounts, complete with a seven-day free trial—all without leaving the Google experience.

While the service maintains its premium positioning at $12.99 a month in Canada ($9.99 US), industry analysts note that Android availability could help Apple compete more aggressively against streaming rivals in international markets.

Since its 2019 debut, Apple TV+ has accumulated 538 awards and more than 2,500 nominations, leveraging its critically praised originals to carve a niche in the crowded streaming landscape. The Android expansion not only widens its potential subscriber base but also establishes new cross-platform opportunities for Apple’s growing sports portfolio.

With Major League Soccer’s global fan base and Apple TV+’s expanding sports lineup, the Android app could prove pivotal in Apple’s bid to become a year-round destination for both scripted entertainment and live athletics.
